On this morning after the Cubs have quickly washed out of the playoffs, I share the sense of "what the hell???" with other long time fans. Let's console ourselves with the somewhat perverse view that losing makes us special. Think about it, are the Boston Red Sox the same now that winning the World Series is routine? Weak, I know, but that's all I got.

As a kid, I watched the Cubs on WGN no matter how often they lost. I experienced the incredible joy and then agonizing pain of 1969 while I was in high school. I listened to Lou Boudreau say, in 1977, that once a team is 25 games over .500, they'll never see .500 again (they were 47-22 and finished 81-81). I thought, perhaps in my lifetime, when the playoffs of 1984 saw me in the upper deck grandstand for game 2, the last game the Cubs won that year. I've seen other playoff series since and don't blame Bartman (anymore) for any failures. I'll keep coming back because I'm a Cub fan and always will be. As far as I know, pain is part of baseball.

Well put, Sillyman. Good true fans follow their team no matter what.

It's disappointing but they are not alone. There are countless times when teams finish at the top during the season, then fail to advance in the playoffs in every professional sport. I'm not a baseball fan but I've felt that pain for decades as a hockey fan.

Congratulations to the Cubs for having a great regular season!

Sorry for Nikki and Mumz that their team were knocked out of the playoffs.....http://www.nikkisforum.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

In the case of the Yankees, I prefer my team not make the playoffs and not have to lose in the playoffs, always sucks when that happens.....

That is why I took great joy in what happened to the Mets.....again! They were in first place towards the end, were in the playoffs going into
the very last game and all they had to do was win the last game and they'd be in the playoffs.....what happened, they lost. At least the Yankees
were never in first place. were never in the playoffs to start with.....

Take Care.....

Chris.

I was shocked they got knocked out in 3 games. They were so damn dominate all year. They had outscored their opponents by over 180 runs!
Heres to next year.. :drinking:

After great seasons, both the Cubbies and the Angels suffered the same fate. Although I live in L.A., I am no Dodger fan. My friends called me BenedictBob, but I was rooting for the Cubs. I am 0-for-2 because I was also rooting for the Angels. As USC found out when it played Oregon State, that's why they play the games. But a Dodger/Red Sox match-up in the Series would be very interesting for Manny fans.
