Let the facts speak for themselves:

1. 66 dog's many of them with broken limbs, scarring and other injuries consistent with dog fighting without receiving food, water or veterinary care.

2. A dog fighting pit, bite sticks, jaw-prying sticks, whips, injectable drugs, chains and treadmills were found on the property.

3. Blood-soaked carpeting and blood splatters on a wall

4. Scarred dogs and some with gashes on their bodies

5. Many of the dogs were tied to heavy chains link to car axles buried in the ground.

With all of this evidence why has not Michael Dwayne Vick been charged with dog fighting and neglect?

There have been dog fighting cases that have led to convictions with less evidence.

Regardless of who occupies the property, the owner is ultimately responsible for what happens on his property!

NFL star Michael Vick was indicted by a federal grand jury Tuesday on charges of sponsoring a dogfighting operation so grisly the losers either died in the pit or sometimes were electrocuted, drowned, hanged or shot.

The Atlanta Falcons quarterback and three others were charged with competitive dogfighting, procuring and training pit bulls for fighting and conducting the enterprise across state lines.

The operation was named "Bad Newz Kennels," according to the indictment, and the dogs were housed, trained and fought at a property owned by Vick in Surry County, Va.

The 18-page federal indictment, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, alleges the 27-year-old Vick and his co-defendants began the dogfighting operation in early 2001, the former Virginia Tech star's rookie year with the Falcons.

The indictment states that dogs fought to the death — or close to it.

If convicted, Vick and the others — Purnell A. Peace, Quanis L. Phillips and Tony Taylor — could face up to six years in prison, $350,000 in fines and restitution.

Telephone messages left at the offices and home of Vick's attorney, Larry Woodward, were not returned. A woman who answered the phone at the home of Vick's mother said "no comment" and hung up.

"We are disappointed that Michael Vick has put himself in a position where a federal grand jury has returned an indictment against him," NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said.

"The activities alleged are cruel, degrading and illegal. Michael Vick's guilt has not yet been proven, and we believe that all concerned should allow the legal process to determine the facts."

Vick and the Falcons are scheduled to report to training camp on July 25.

"Obviously, we are disturbed by today's news," the team said in a statement posted on its Web site, apologizing to fans for the negative publicity.

"We will do the right thing for our club as the legal process plays out. We have a season to prepare for," it said.

John Goodwin of the Humane Society said the manner in which losing or unwilling dogs were killed was especially troubling.

"Some of the grisly details in these filings shocked even me, and I'm a person who faces this stuff every day," he said. "I was surprised to see that they were killing dogs by hanging them and one dog was killed by slamming it to the ground. Those are extremely violent methods of execution — they're unnecessary and just sick."

Vick and the others are accused of "knowingly sponsoring and exhibiting an animal fighting venture" and conducting a business enterprise involving gambling, as well as buying, transporting and receiving dogs for the purposes of an animal fighting venture.

About eight young dogs were put to death at the Surry County home after they were found not ready to fight in April 2007, the indictment said. They were killed "by hanging, drowning and/or slamming at least one dog's body to the ground."

The indictment also outlined a rough chronology:

• In March 2003, after a pit bull from Bad Newz Kennels lost in a fight, it said Peace consulted with Vick about the losing dog's condition, then executed it by wetting it with water and electrocuting it;

• In March 2003, after two Bad Newz Kennels dog lost fights to dogs owned by a cooperating witness, it alleged that Vick retrieved a bag containing $23,000 and gave it to the owner of the winning dogs. One of the fights had a $20,000 purse;

• In the fall of 2003, a person witnessing a dog fight involving one of the dogs trained by Bad Newz Kennels incurred the ire of another cooperating witness by yelling out Vick's name in front of the crowd during the fight.

It also said that after establishing Bad Newz Kennels in early 2002, Vick and the others obtained shirts and headbands promoting their affiliation with the kennel.

After a police raid on the property in April, Vick said he was rarely at the house, had no idea it may have been used in a criminal enterprise. He blamed family members for taking advantage of his generosity.

On Vick's Web site, he lists his birthplace as Newport News, "a.k.a. BadNews."

Purses for the fights ranged from hundreds of dollars to the thousands, and participants and spectators placed side bets, the document said.

Local authorities have been investigating the allegations since the April 25 drug raid at the property Vick owned. On June 7, officials with the Department of Agriculture executed their own search warrant and found the remains of seven dogs.

Surry County prosecutor Gerald G. Poindexter said he didn't know of the indictment before it was filed, and said he's not sure how the county will continue its case.

At the start, authorities seized 66 dogs, including 55 pit bulls, and equipment commonly used in dogfighting. About half the dogs were tethered to car axles with heavy chains that allowed the dogs to get close to each other, but not to have contact — an arrangement typical for fighting dogs, according to the search warrant affidavit.

The indictment said dogfights were held at the Virginia property and dog owners brought animals from six states, including New York and Texas.

In a search warrant executed July 6, the government said the fights usually occurred late at night or in the early morning and would last several hours.

Before fights, participating dogs of the same sex would be weighed and bathed, according to the filings. Opposing dogs would be washed to remove any poison or narcotic placed on the dog's coat that could affect the other dog's performance.

Sometimes, dogs weren't fed to "make it more hungry for the other dog," it said.

He should be treated like he treated thoe dogs. Its almost unreal that stuff like this is going on in this country, Vickis a disgrace to the NFL and as a human being. Some of the horror stories I've read and pics I've seen have left me feeling no remorse for any actions taking against him..

You're right HE isnt worth it, but what he did is still wrong and he should be punished accordingly for it, his "apology" was bullshit and I still dont think he even realizes why what he did was wrong. I hope he goes to jail and gets :aol_dirtysanchez: while he's there.

Well, Vick will go to jail but it will be a min. security prison. He'll be in jail with non-violent offenders. I'm not saying his jail time will be a cake walk, but it will not be what most people here are hoping for.

The worst par tabout his apology was that he wasnt sorry for what he did, he was sorry he got caught doing it. Of course on Larry King Live someone had to bring out the race card. Another example of people making excuses for actions they chose to do.

Vick should get another chance just because everyone deserves a 2nd chance even though what he did was horrible, but i just don't know of a team in 2010 or 2011 when he will be eligable to possibly play that would sign him..it would be too risky. And when he is in jail you know that everyone is going to be nice to him and ask for his autograph and stuff lol..

I don't know much about this guy because I don't follow the NFL, but it's just sick what he and others did. Pets are innocent life, they have no choice in how they are treated and it is upsetting to read the allegations.

Some of the rich and famous or talented sports figures are so blessed with success and money and talent, it's not enough and they have to kill or torture innocent life? W T F ???

It's is so sad to see a starving beaten animals face, look into it's eyes and realize the cruelty that they have endured can never be explained to them. Animals that are subjected to cruelty and saved from death can never understand that it was just some super a-hole that did it to them, and that they are now safe.

To think that these animals are basically here for our enjoyment, living their lives to please us, and that's not good enough for assholes like this. They have to pervert an innocent pets life into fights to the death just so they can have MORE entertainment and MORE money.

It's heartbreaking to me and difficult to read about. I'm sure the punishment will not fit the crime.

Ok but to clear up the facts... Dog fighting is Dog fighting... killers have gotten much less. Read up about Dog Fighting and see how much "time" first offenders usually get for such a thing. It's usually a fine and slap on the hand, not 5 years in jail. I understand other charges were brough against him but he pleaded guilty to killing a few dogs and being present during dog fights and partially giving money to support the fighting. He deserves punishment for the crimes he committed... not for how gruesome the public or the judge thinks the crime is.

I am a pet owner myself and I love dogs I even have 2 American Pit Bull Terriers and they are adorable. I am all for animal rights, but when did animal rights become more important than peoples rights.. in any instance? In the end.. it's Dog Fighting...

We praise and rehab our other celebs for doing coke and operating moving vehicles and putting other peoples lives in danger. We hope and pray that they get better and send them to rehab. Killers are free they are represented strongly and defended with questions to their mental states at the time. Michael Vick was dog fighting and we throw him to the lions?? Something about that just doesn't seem right to me.

but eh ... to each their own. I think he deserves to be punished with something that fits the crime, not media attention and the publics discomfort.

to Johnbcia- please re-read Ami de Nikkis post,

to Ami De Nikki - so true...couldn't say it better

to Obie- Vick pleaded guilty to financing illegal gambling operations...pretty much tying him into gambling...even though Arthur Blank and Roger Goodel have had their lips wrapped firmly around Vicks dick for years...even they cannot get past that under NFL laws and rules that Vick is to be banned for life for illegal gambling,. but as we have seen the past several months both members are gonna do all they can to protect their stupid poster boy....so we shall have to wait and see.

I think that personally Vick should be strung up by his nuts... Oh wait that would require him actually having a set. I hope that in Dec. at his sentencing that they throw the book at his ass, and give him the max for his crime. Maybe now people will see him for his true colors, and stop riding his non existant jock. The man could of been great now he will be nothing. His NFL career should have been more than it was but I guess he proved on the field and off just how low of a human (and I use that word extremely lightly) he really is.

murder is murder.....I dont think he should get a 2nd chance or a "light" punishment. He is a public figure therfore it should be the maximum. people are gunna see that he gets off light so they can get off light. i own a pitbull. its the best damn dog in the world. i love my dog to death. what he did was not only wrong but pathetic. to get pleasure or entertainment out of two dogs fighting till the death is just plain wrong. everybody is like "well he wont play football anymore" who gives a fuck! he doesnt need to. hes worth millions!!! hes still going to eat steak every night, hes still going to drive that bentley. i think he should get that maximum sentance, which is only 5 years. a HUGE fine and one of his balls cut off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

better idea, instead of having pit bulls fight to the death, cover him in meat sauce, and let the dogs attack HIM!!! Restrain him of course, hands and feet tied with nylon straps, have him naked, and use.......oooooh, 100 pit bulls for this exercise. :)

whether he gets justice of the man or the justice of the end times...Vick will pay for his crimes...he can act all nonchalant now but it will catch up to him and he will have no way out when he has to face is crimes and his demeanor and fuck all attitude gets the adjustment of a lifetime.
