I wouldn't be surprised if the Ducks repeated. I don't think the Sharks have the team to go all the way. They'll have a solid regular season and be in the mix in the playoffs, but I don't think they can get over the hump.

It has to happen some time, why not this year?

They just lose focus a lot and don't have that killer instinct. There's been a lot of games over the last two years (especially in the playoffs) that they should have shut the door, but let their opponents back in the game. They have a ton of talent, but they strike me as a team that just won't be able to get it done.

The Season officially gets under way this weekend. Although most teams don;t play their first game until Oct. 3rd or 4th.
Here on the home front the Blackhawks star rookie, Jonathon Toews, broke his finger in his second pre-season game and is questionable for the start of the year. Their other rookie, Patrick Kane, is having a decent pre-season and has a few points. The new players on the team seem to still be learning their new teammates. The D-men look like they still need more time and Khabbi is not really impressing me.
Their record as of now stands at 2-2-1 for the pre-season.

Bill Wirtz, owner of the Chicago Blackhawks has died today after a battle with cancer. While this is a sad day for the Wirtz family and those close to him, it is a rather joyous day for Blackhawks fans everywhere after watching this man run this once proud team right into the ground.
I do not wish death upon anyone but in this case it is a mixed bag.

Agreed. Last year first time in the playoffs, and only six games in this year? Too much of a knee jerk reaction, should be interesting to see if they win the next six in a row now...

It didn't suprise me that Hartley got fired
His team needed leadership that he couldn't provide, and starting Hedberg over Lehtonen isn't going to solve anything
He was holding on to his ring for way to long

Lots of scoring in the NHL so far this year. My boy Toews scored one of the sickest goals I've seen. The Blackahwks are making a ton of changes after their owner passed away. Their was a press release yesterday stating that they were in communication with comcast sports net to put some of the Hawks home games on TV this year. For anyone that knows anything about the Blackahwks history, you know that is a huge statement.
Heres the link to the Toews goal if you havent seen it.

what does everyone know about predators sucking?
mojojojo530
10-24-2007, 05:52 PM
The predators have lost too much talent over the off-season to be anything like they were last year. I did not expect them to be 2-6 though. Sullivan is still hurt as well and they need his offense. Mason played well to start the season but has since been pretty bad.
I expected them to be a little fired up with everything that has happened with their team almost being sold and all. If they do poorly this year and attendance drops, they could be doomed in the long term. I don;t know the exact terms of the lease agreement for their stadium but I know if they do not draw a certain amount of people, the owner can break the lease agreement and move the team. That's what Mr. Blackberry was looking to do a few months back from what I understand.

The Penguins look soft on defense again this year, that 1-0 win the other night did not impress me. I would like them to do well, I just don't think they will go deep with the team they have now. I'm really rooting for Fluery, but I've said many times before, I dont think he's the man for the job in Pittsburgh.

Miikka Kiprusoff signed for 6 more years in Calgary:
The Calgary Flames have called a news conference tonight and sources tell TSN it is to announce a long-term contract extension for Calgary netminder Miikka Kiprusoff.
Sources say it is a six-year deal worth an average of between $5.5 million to $6 million per year.
Kiprusoff, 31, was acquired in 2004 from San Jose and quickly established himself as the team's No. 1 netminder.
He backstopped the Flames to the 2004 Stanley Cup final, posting a 15-11 record with a 1.85 goals-against average in 26 playoff games.
His best regular season to date came in 2005-06, when he posted a 42-20-11 record with a 2.07 goals-against average and .923 save percentage and won the Jennings and Vezina trophies

Since I am a huge hockey fan I may as well post something here. Who do you think will win the scoring crown this season?

I've been to one NHL game in my life, many years ago at the old Chicago Stadium where I learned that sitting up in the 1st balcony meant taking your life in your hands and only seeing half the rink because the underside of the 2nd balcony blocked your view of the far side of the ice.
There were no sharks or ducks or pittsburgh or ottawa, only the original six teams, in those days so I'll go with what I know and say Blackhawks all the way.
And before anyone objects, I know there was an Ottawa at the very beginning of the NHL but then there was a very, very long gap before they were re-created.

WOW! The first major NHL expansion happened in 1967 so that game you went to had to of been over 40 years ago! I think it is time you made it out to another game. The united Center is nothing like the old barn, but it is pretty decent when packed.

He might have been a crook, but L.A. Hockey hasn't been the same since Bruce McNall (prior owner of the Kints) checked into prison. I was a season ticket holder when #99 arrived but when they moved from the Forum to Staples, I lost interest. But I will be there for the first 5 home games of the season (I make only that much of a commitment to the team each year) and will hope for the best. With a new coach and a very young team (but without any real commitment from ownership) we don't hold out too much hope, but you never know. Seems to me that the whole league is in precarious financial condition without a real TV contract, and I hope this credit crunch doesn't cause too many teams to have trouble meeting payroll this season. There may be as much drama in the financial offices of the teams as on the ice this year, I fear. I am in Vancouver frequently, and time my trips so I can attend games there, where the fans are real.

My LA Kings have had a few very good first few games but even with the Dodgers out of the Series and the Laker season not started yet, nobody is showing up for the Kings. I can't remember seeing Staples so empty. Whether it is the economy or how bad the Kings have been the last several years, they are staying away in droves, and I think this might be a tough financial year for the NHL if this is any indication.

Good comeback against my Hurricanes last Friday! I thought the game was over at 3-1, I guess the Canes did too. It is sad to see so many empty seats around the league, but NHL tickets are so expensive. Most people I talk to just want to see professional hockey so they go to AHL games for $11 a seat, but I would only pay to see my team play, not just "any" pro hockey team and there is a definite difference between college, AHL and NHL.

I got to see the Wings for the first time in a long time last night, and I watched them squander a two goal lead in the final half of the third, fall behind by a goal in the closing minutes, manage to tie it in the final minute, then lose in a shootout. Not the result I would have hoped for, but an entertaining game nonetheless.

That game was against Calgary I think. The Wings had 28 shots on goal in the first period alone and led 2-1. Led 4-2 after the second. Good effort, they got a point.

I'm not gonna argue whether or not there are quality players in the league you speak of, but to be fair, that isn't even a professional league. It is below the English Premier Ice Hockey League.

Yeah I know, but it's the league I used to play in so I'll always rate it #1, even though the quality of the players was shocking.
That said, when I was in the juniors we brought in two players who were AAA in the states and they weren't THAT much better than us, but the difference in the way they trained was embarrassingly obvious.

Congratulations to the Pens for winning The Cup!
Marc-Andre-Fleury, what an awesome performance in game 7! Two simply spectacular saves in the final seconds to preserve the Cup win! Watch the second save in slow motion...he doesn't just jump to his right in desperation, he pushes off his skate twice to stay in position before making the second save. Awesome!
Does it take anything away from winning the Cup when it's won on the road? The Detroit fans were pretty good, and I'm all for booing Gary Bettman (lol) but it didn't seem like the fans were very respectful of the Pens win. Even in "hockeytown", once it's over, it's over and the fans should realize this and at least give some applause to both teams and to the Pens when they raised The Cup. Sure didn't seem like they were on the TV coverage. Sounded like some pretty loud boos when some players hoisted The Cup too. Not impressed.

Right! So, who does he play for next lol?
He was a no-show in the finals too. Talented players have to show up in the when the series is on the line. I think Jordan Staal's shorthanded goal (game 4 I think?) changed the whole series.
