So, it's THAT time again...
Okay, so everyone is starting to get "into" the political thing again because of the impending presidential elections. This is really the time of year (yes, I do know that this only happens every 4 years....so bite me!) that I really hate. Everywhere you turn, there is something staring you right in the face, or someone trying to impart their "worldly knowledge", about whom the best candidate is for this country and why everything is so screwed up now. I mean, really, everybody is on their particular candidate's "lovetrain", but I know (and you do too) that if that particular candidate gets elected, sooner or later (oft times it's sooner), the "rose-tinted glasses" seem to fog a bit, and that person no longer has the same "aura" they once possessed when they were a mere 'candidate'. Think about it, take all of the promises and vows and general glad-handing that EVERY candidate does and think very hard about exactly what it is that they are saying. "I'm going to cut taxes!" (um, not without Congress, you're not); "I'm going to get us out of this immoral, bloody war!" (fine, but you will probably have us in another, more moral, war this time next year.); "I'm going to make a change that will make this country better in the end!" (okay, but what EXACTLY are you going to change that will make anything "better"? And what exactly do you think you can do all by yourself anyway??? Oh and by the way, can you define "better"???). People get so wrapped up in the promises end of things that they forget to look for any REAL substance in what their particular candidate is saying. Friends often become bitter rivals, and families have been known to split over something so trivial as who the best person is for the job of President of the United States. Don't misunderstand, I do love my country, and I do intend to vote for the person I think is best suited for the job. I just hope that more people actually see past all of the smoke and mirrors and realize that no matter who goes into the oval office, at some point, that person will let everyone down. It's inevitable...
