Hey y'all! I am injured right now and can't work for a little while, so I thought I would pop in and say, "Hiya!" Anyway, last Thursday I managed to get part of my right middle finger caught in the press I was working on and it decided to rip off about 3/4 of the fingertip down to the first knuckle. It really didn't hurt that badly until I looked at it and could see the white bone in the middle of all the mangled meat. That's when my brain decided to let me know that I really screwed up and pain shot through my whole hand and arm. I have an appointment with a hand specialist tomorrow morning to determine what needs to be done for me to get back to work in the shortest time possible. Until yesterday, it's been more of a minor annoyance more than anything else. It's felt more like a toothache would feel like. Then all of a sudden, the real pain started yesterday and I finally had to hit the real painkillers. The Lortab they prescribed for me wasn't even touching the pain until I decided to double the dose. Now, it's a little more managable.

I hope everyone is doing well, and staying healthy. I am hoping to be able to get my internet back fairly soon and get my as back in here on a regular basis again! 'Til then, y'all keep the light on for me!

Hey y'all! Well, I went to the hand specialist and he basically gave me 3 opitons:

1. Leave things as they are, and let the finger heal on its own. He says that from what he could see, there is enough healthy tissue that it could regenerate and become a fairly normal finger again. The downside; it is going to take at least 4-6 weeks for any skin to regenerate and I have to keep changing the dressing everyday and I have to be very careful not to bump it into anything or get it wet.

2. amputate the finger at the first joint and close the wound by folding the skin over like a boxtop and closing with sutures. Upside: 2 weeks healing time; Downside: kind of self explanatory. Right???

3. Get a piece of skin from another part of my body and graft it to the finger. Upside: 3weeks healing time. Downside: the nerve endings would not regenerate in the graft and I would have a permanently numb finger. (not to mention if the graft came from my ass.... well, would YOU want a finger that permanently smelled like ass???)

To me, the choice was simple, I took option 1 and I'm just keeping my fingers (on my left hand) crossed that everything goes as planned and I can have a fairly normal finger again.
