Has he been the Cubs closer all year? How does he only have 26 saves? Anyway, you've got a 1.5 game lead, and the Cubs finish the season against the shittiest teams in baseball, so I think you'll be okay.

As a lifetime Cleveland Indians fan, trust me, I sympathize with having a terrible closer. :

Dumpster should NOT be a closer! Thank god we upped our cushion to 5 runs before he came into the game or we would have lost. It's pretty much a given that when he comes in he'll give up atleast one run every time!

Actually ... Dempster is putting up very good numbers. His ERA could be a little better but 28 out of 31 save opportunities he's gotten? Even Howry's lost more save opportunites than Dempster with far less chances. His walks are a little higher than I'd like to see. Since the all star break, pitching hasn't been the biggest issue for the Cubs, it's been run support and leaving men on base so often. If we can start getting our baserunners home we can easily run away with this division. Timely hitting... tonight showed timely hitting... Good job Derosa! Go Cubbies!

i would like to see marmol in the closer positon instead of the 7th or 8th inning usually. ive never seen him fall apart and allow hit after hit like dempster seems to do.

Dempster is average at best. I am never really comfortable with him coming into the game. Yes he has converted a good amount of his save chances, but he walks too many guys(one walk per 2 innings) and lately has been giving up the homerun ball. Sadly, we don't have many other options. I would not make Marmol the closer. He probably will be a closer sometime in his career, hopefully for the cubs, but not this year.

I think someone once said about Marmol that he has "all the tools and no toolbox."

Well, it looks like he went to the hardware store.
